Powerline Technician Project

The mission of the Electricity Sector Council is to develop sector-based initiatives which strengthen the ability of stakeholders in the Canadian electricity industry to meet current and future needs for a skilled, safety-focused, and internationally competitive workforce.

The Powerline Technician project supported this by directly addressing key human resources challenges around recruitment, retention and development of one of the most critical operational roles within the electricity business — powerline technicians.

The project resulted in the following two reports:

This report includes a repository of emerging practices in the areas of recruitment, retention and training; identifies gaps in the delivery of training for apprentices and experienced Powerline Technicians; and recommends which strategies to continue using.
