Canada - U.S. Clean Energy Dialogue Forum
The Council, in partnership with Natural Resources Canada, hosted the “Building a Power Workforce of Tomorrow” forum, which was delivered under the Canada - U.S. Clean Energy Dialogue. The bi-lateral forum was held on February 17 & 18, 2010 in Toronto, Ontario.
The electricity industry in Canada and the United States is facing a challenging period with an increasing need for skilled workforce due to the pending retirements and a massive regeneration of electricity infrastructure. In an effort to meet current and future needs for a skilled, safety focused, and internationally competitive workforce, the forum provided an opportunity for both countries to share information and best practices for skills development programs as well as to develop strategies coordinated for engaging and enhancing these programs.
Participants had an opportunity to hear from a dynamic group of industry leaders from Canada and the United States about challenges, opportunities and effective skills development strategies. Keynote speakers included: the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Natural Resources Canada; Judith MacBride-King, Principal, MacBride-King and Associates; and Laura Formusa, President and CEO, Hydro One Inc.
